I don’t hate my job, but I also don’t love it. There are times where it crushes my soul completely and I start to imagine how amazing it’d feel to quit on the spot. Today is one of those days. HOWEVER, I refuse to let my bad day carry through to after-work hours. Work-life balance should exist emotionally as well. Here are 5 things I often do to recover from bad vibes!
Go for a walk
It relaxes me physically and mentally. The fresh air clears my head. Being around nature calms me, and makes me feel my problems are smaller than they really are. NBC News has mentioned “Psychologists found that a 10-minute walk may be just as good as a 45-minute workout when it comes to relieving the symptoms of anxiety.” To add, if I happen to see a doggo along the way, then that would be a cherry on top.
Eat what I’ve been craving
Nothing feels more rewarding than eating what you’ve been thinking about all day. Today for me, is a spicy beef patty with chocolate milk. It’s a weird combo I know. But I was craving it and now I feel content, and so does my stomach. I’d also like to think I did myself a favour by crossing something off my mind.
Listen to upbeat music
According to Healthline, a study from the Journal of Positive Psychology confirmed that listening to upbeat music can “improve mood and boost happiness”. It might sound weird, but I have been using music to regulate my mood and listening to the right songs really helped me lift my spirits.
Watch my favourite show
There’s no better feeling than treating yourself with your favourite TV show after a long, demanding day. It’s so satisfying to be able to take your mind off of work and indulge in an ep or two (…or even three). At the end of the day, it’s likely you can’t resolve the issues until you’re back to work anyway so why not let Netflix takes over your head for a bit? Here are the best Netflix shows I’ve watched the past 2 months.
Pamper pamper pamper
By now you might realize my overarching theme to recover from bad workdays is to treat myself, so we cannot miss pampering. From putting on my favourite face mask (yasss to Fresh’s Black Tea Instant Perfecting Mask!!), to taking a long bath with a lavender bath bomb, I gotta do at least one thing to show myself some love and care after a rough work day.
These are my ways to recover from a bad work day. Hopefully they can help you too. If there’s something you do that’s not on this list, please share in the comment below. I’d love to know!

I couldn’t agree with this post. These tips are particularly helpful to those whose bosses are the ones that make their lives difficult (am I talking to myself?).
As for me, what I’d do is I’d turn off my mobile device, especially if there are no deadlines to beat, so I don’t get office-related messages. I’ve always had this mantra to “eliminate all stressors”. Since anything that has to do with our office stresses me, I “eliminate” it for a while by staying away from anything that has something to do with it. For me, routine work can wait, my health and self-love can’t.

Oh yeah, that’s a great one! Totally agree with all of that. I find having work-related devices in my sight can induce stress sometimes too.
At my last job I got burned out quickly because it was very demanding, and I didn’t know how to manage ‘work stressors’ at all. All the overtime and late-night emails were eating my mental health alive. So I’ve committed myself to develop self-care habits to maintain sanity. I think knowing when to be away from work and enjoy personal time is a skill to master! (and I learned it the hard way sadly haha)

I totally agree with you! From your list, the thing I do the most is probably eating what I’ve been craving! And going out for a walk is such a good idea too! Of course, pampering is a must-do! 🤗
Hahahaha I can’t imagine how beef patty and chocolate milk taste together, though haha 😂

Eating what I crave never fails me! Beef patty and chocolate milk is almost as good as McFlurry and McDonalds fries together 😂 (<- highly recommends)
