The Lockdown Tag 2020

All these tags going around look fun! I want to thank Pooja from lifesfinewhine for opening up the nomination for everyone to participate. Her blog talks about everything from lifestyle to mental health. Her posts are pretty awesome!

Rules

  1. Thank the blogger who nominated you.
  2. Answer blogger’s questions.
  3. Nominate other bloggers.

Questions

  1. Which country do you live in?
Canada 🍁 (I live in Toronto right now!)
  2. Favourite book?
Girl, wash your face by Rachel Hollis (an amazing self-help book!)
  3. How do you spend your time during lockdown?
Starting this blog (woo!), learning how to crochet, taking some Skillshare classes, doing 1000-pc puzzles, and most importantly, Netflix. (Please recommend some shows to me! I’ve binged them so fast. Here are the best Netflix series I’ve watched during lockdown so far.)
  4. Have you tried cooking a new dish because of lockdown? If yes, share the name?
    No…but I want to!
  5. Early riser or Night owl?
Lately I have been a night owl, but I want to get back into being an early riser.
  6. Holiday dream destination?
    Guatamala, Taiwan, Japan, Egypt.
  7. Favorite food?
This question is hard! Too many to choose from…scallop sashimi, hand-pulled noodles, seafood pancake, xiao long bao.
  8. Instagram or Twitter?
Instagram – while we are at it, here’s my instagram 🙈
  9. Favorite cartoon as a child?
I was born in Hong Kong, so most of the cartoons I watched were Cantonese/Japanese. My favourite one was Tonde Burin. One time I missed an episode because my mom didn’t wake me up from my nap. That was our first ever big fight.
  10. What do you prefer on a Saturday night? Netflix or Partying?
Netflix party with a small group of friends.

  1. Thank you for the shoutout and for participating in this tag! I live in Ontario too- just two hours away from Toronto! I’m also a total night owl and I’ve always wanted to try hand-pulled noodles.

      1. Ooh yay! I’ve met a couple of Ontario bloggers but not a lot. I definitely want to try them some time! Any good restaurant recommendations for hand-pulled noodles in Toronto?

      2. Thanks for those recommendations! Once I start doing some travelling when all this is over I’ll check them out and I’ll definitely let you know!

  2. Hi Kae, thanks for sharing this, keep an eye on my post as I’ll mention your name in it. Also, I was planning to move to Toronto for my Masters in Media and Communication. Would you mind advising me on living as a student, culture and people in Toronto?
I’ve never been to Canada before so was a bit curious yet excited to understand as much as possible before I spend an exorbitant amount of fees there.

    1. Hi Salonie! Amazing, can’t wait to read your post!

And that’s so exciting!! Which school are you going to for your masters? Do you have an idea which area you will be staying in? I can tell you more about the specifics of those.

I think the culture is a bit different depending on the area. Generally downtown Toronto is like a mini NYC, busy and packed with people. Lots of amazing food, and shopping! Toronto is VERY multicultural, you will see people of different races, which also means you can get good authentic cultural food easily!

      1. I plan to move in Toronto. How is University of Toronto and York for Journalism and Communication Studies?

The primary reason I chose Toronto over Vancouver is because of the vibe. I look forward to interactions with people from different backgrounds and culture. With respect to busy and fast paced life- I’ve become used to it. Right now I live in London so you can imagine what kind of skin I’ve developed hehe.

Would love to hear more about Toronto and the above mentioned universities or any other good university you are aware of.

      2. I did Commerce for my undergrad so I’m not familiar with your field BUT my friend is. She has a journalism degree from Ryerson. I’ve messaged her to get her take on this for you! I’ll comment here when she replies.

Toronto and Vancouver I do find it’s a bit similar. But yes I think Toronto may have more of the cultural vibrant experience to it, and we like to use interesting slangs haha.

Most of the good spots for people watching, cultural experiences, shopping, and eating will happen in downtown (or close to DT). Korea town, China Town, Greek town, Little India and such have good authentic cuisines. Festivals are pretty big here, such as CNE, Caribana, Pride Parade, and Night Markets, which I recommend checking out! And the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) that happens every year!! This is a huge deal for the city, celebrities come to screening and do interviews and such. I think Lady Gaga came before for her “A star is born” screening!! I believe most of these happen during the summer though, so this year for sure they won’t be happening because of covid. When you come, I can share some good restaurants and specific locations to check out!

If your budgets allow, I’d recommend living near the subway line so you can commute to different areas of Toronto easier. If you live on residence, then that’s good too because UT (if you choose the downtown location) and York are both close to the subway. In fact, there is a York University subway station. Ryerson (where my friend got her journalism degree) is also right at downtown core!

      3. Thank you so much Kae for explaining so well. I’m sure Downtown Toronto is as vibrant as you comment about it.
To be honest, I’m still in the process if making things clear on what I want after my undergrad degree. Lols. I think we all have to go through this dilemma?

Let me know when your friend replies, I’d love to hear more on my hopefully, future home 🙂

Thanks a lot babe, means a lot.

      4. No problem! I like Toronto, I can talk about it for hours haha. So feel free to ask me more questions if you have any other ones 🙂

And my friend replied! She highly recommends Ryerson for journalism (also where she got her degree from). She said they are well known for that field. It is also good because they are located in DT core. Very convenient location with lots of great food and shopping. A lot of events happen in that area too. I actually personally dance at Ryerson a lot, and I love the area!

  3. Oh my gosh, I love this so much. This tag looks so fun~

My parents are from Hong Kong, so I totally relate on growing up on Chinese and Japanese cartoons lol.

Have you seen Schitt’s Creek? It’s my favorite series right now! Season 6 isn’t available on the U.S. Netflix yet, so I’ve been watching it on U.K.’s Netflix via a VPN. 😂 I’ve also been really into Dynasty on Netflix as well!

    1. I know!! This tag is funnn.

Oh HK buddies! When did you move to where you are? Are you based in the states right now?

No I haven’t, but my friends love that show!! They’re probably not as dedicated as you though getting a VPN hahahah 😂 I just started Community, it’s hilarious. It’s one of those shows perfect for playing in the background while you eat. And wuuu Dynasty, I haven’t heard much about that one. Ima look into it. Thanks for the recos!! 💕
